    Thank you so much for this video. I started a granny ripple and really disliked how the edge was curling. Needless to say, after watching this video I tore out the eight rows I had done and restarted it using your method with the slip stitch in the chain and I have to say how much better my afghan is looking. Thank you again for this video it was very helpful.

    I just finished my first “Granny Rectangle Baby Blue Blanket” and love it. Thank you for precise and slow instructions! I plan to make it again using the same yarn in the color “Pedals” (pinks and purples). I did something to cause a tiny “pooch” on the ends of the first row of granny squares. It might have been related to my tension or maybe I did something incorrectly, I’m not sure. I was so busy stopping and starting the video as I crocheted the first few rows I didn’t notice it until I was several rows in and I didn’t want to start over. It’s not really that bad, I’m just a perfectionist and want to learn what I did wrong. I was wondering if you offer written printable instructions as I would love to add this pattern to my Crochet pattern book. Thank you again for helping me learn how to make my first granny square blanket. I can’t wait to start my second one!

    After you do your starting chain and you are going back across doing the single crochet stitches, it looks like you are only going through one loop of the chain stitch. I like to do my first stitches from the chain using the back bump because it makes the line straighter. Would this affect the rest of the pattern?

    • @kellyreneeveryday
      @kellyreneeveryday 23 дня назад

      You can definitely do the first row out using the back bump. It creates a nicer edge. And I am going through both loops on the top of the stitch. Crochet stitches tend to tip forward and the angle of the camera is not picking this up. I will be sure to make that clear on future videos. Thank you for watching!

I like the simple numbers in millimeters for clarity but find the letters easier to remember. For knitting I still think in pre WW2 system and have to refer to lists to get it right. Is there any kind of formula that I can use so that I end up with the correct size?

    Just wondering for a general size Afghan how many stitches you do for your foundation? I have done primarily baby blankets and I’m trying to start one for like a 10-year-old girl and didn’t want it to be huge but didn’t want it to be super small either what’s your recommendation. Previously, I had been told to do my arm span, but not sure if that’s accurate or not.

    • @kellyreneeveryday
      @kellyreneeveryday 2 месяца назад

      It's hard to say exactly how many chains to start on the foundation row. What I would suggest is finding the size of blanket you'd like to make. Maybe a smaller throw size. Then just make your chain that wide and be sure you are chaining an odd number so that you end up with an even number on the first row of stitches. The beauty of handmade crafts are that you can customize them to what you want. I hope this helps.

    I make a half double crochet (hdc) for the last corner instead of slip stitching the 3 dc and the ch 3 to get to the next round. I then do a stacked single crochet (stsc), then 2 dc in same space. The hdc gets me in the middle of the corner, and the hdc is the same as a ch 2. It eliminates the slip stitching and the chain 3 to get to the next round. It makes the transition to the next round seamless.

    I just found this and I love the stitch and the way it works up. I did have a question about using the cake. I've noticed on the skeins that the colors aren't always in the same order, so when starting on a new skein for this Afghan do you try to match up the color or just let it flow even if it's in a different order?

    • @kellyreneeveryday
      @kellyreneeveryday 2 месяца назад

      I actually did not make any effort to match colors or patterns between the cakes that don't start and stop with the same colors. I just allowed it to create whatever pattern of stripes it wanted to... and it really turned out so beautifully. I'm so glad you enjoyed it.

    • @kellyreneeveryday

      I used a chain of 197. The chain needs to be an odd number so that your rows end up an even number. So you can customize to what ever size you wish.

  • @criseras459
    @criseras459 3 месяца назад

    Hi. Weirdest thing happened to me. I didn’t want my blanket to be as big so I chained 165. I’m using the 8mm hook. I just finished the 6th cake and I still have another 20in to go. When I measured the width it was at 53 in. I don’t understand how that could have happened when your 196 is suppose to be 40in. Also the buttercream yarn that I purchased from Amazon is not vibrant like yours. But that’s ok because it’s still so very pretty. Thanks you for this awesome pattern. I really love it.

    • @kellyreneeveryday
      @kellyreneeveryday 2 месяца назад

      First, Thank you so much for watching and taking time for this thoughtful comment... that does seem weird, but its all about tension on the finished size. I do crochet tight, so that is why I went up a couple extra sizes to be sure I wouldn't get a stiff fabric. If you crochet loose, then the 8mm hook might be alittle big. Also, surprised about the buttercream color. I have ordered from amazon and it was exactly the same as when I purchase at Michaels which was the yarn you see in this video. I'm glad you still like the results.
